Boone Still Life: Appalachian State University
This painting depicts a bronze sculpture of Daniel Boone with his two blue-tick hounds in the fall of the year. The campsite trio sits on the Appalachian State University campus in Boone, NC near the duck pond and the creek where Boone camped on his trips from the foothills through Cumberland Gap to the wilderness. Sculptor Sherry Edwards sought to create an historically accurate life-size Daniel Boone with his broad-brim Quaker cap and short stature, his leather outfit, his knife around his neck, and his long rifle. Daniel Boone and his two companions invite the passerby to participate and complete the circle at the campfire.
